With Just over 7 months to go until the government introduces a new plastic tax in the UK. What implications does this have on our industry, what does it mean for AirPack and how will this affect you?
The tax
The British government introduced the idea for a plastic tax at Budget 2018, with a promise to make all packaging imported into the UK to be taxed if it does not have a minimum of 30% recycled plastic content. The government is due to introduce this tax from 1st April 2022, meaning companies manufacturing or importing relevant products into the UK will be liable and charged £200 per tonne of plastic.
Why are we seeing this tax?
The objective of the policy is to increase the number of companies using recycled material in their plastic in turn increasing the amount of recycling of plastic. Diverting the plastic away from landfills and incineration.
Will it affect AirPacksystems?
At AirPack we are working very closely with our factory to provide customers with bags made from 30% recycled material, whilst ensuring the quality of bags is not compromised. We are hoping and aiming for the tax to have no effect on the company and how we operate.
Our bags will continue to be 100% recyclable, also our biodegradable range available will be made with 30% recycled material.
How will it affect you?
As a result of our close relationship with our factory, implications will be minimal to you as a customer, other than the packaging being even more environmentally friendly, leading to satisfied end-users and happier oceans.
How can we help?
If you are still unsure about the plastic tax and have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at info@airpacksystems.com for more information or advice. We are always happy to help!
